Kilimanjaro National Park

Mount Kilimanjaro National Park is one of the most visited places in Tanzania. The best rainforest, alpine meadows, farmlands with main volcanic cones kibo, Mawenzi and Shira attracts visitors towards the Park. The lower rainforest is home for many animals including numerous mammals and many endangered species. Mount Kilimanjaro is one of the largest volcanoes in the world and with its snow capped peak and glaciers; it is the highest mountain in Africa.

The main attractions in Mount Kilimanjaro National Park are:

  • The major attraction in Kilimanjaro National Park is Mount Kilimanjaro.
  • A variety of animals can be found in the Kilimanjaro National park such as the Kilimanjaro tree hyrax, the grey duiker, rodents, bushbuck and red duiker.
  • Cape buffalo, blue monkey, western black/white colobus, bush-baby and leopards can be sighted in the montane forest while Elephants can be found between the Namwai and Tarakia rivers.
  • You will discover the multiple habitats within the mountain, from farmlands, rainforests to open Moore lands and the barren alpine bogs and desserts which lead the snow peaks.
  • Beyond the mountain and landscape, there are waterfalls to see such as the Kinukamori waterfalls and Materuni waterfalls.
  • From Amboseli National Park you can have a view of Mount Kilimanjaro as a wonderful backdrop.
 

The main activities of Mount Kilimanjaro National Park are:

  • Mountain Climbing: It is the most common activity done here and you will have the best experience at its highest peak.
  • Wildlife viewing: Game drives are also a main activity to view wild lives on a Safari.
  • Bird watching: Mount Kilimanjaro has different species of Birds and it is believed to be a home to over 150 major species.
  • Cycling: You can make the Safari more experimental by cycling to the highest peak through Kilema route

The other activities include; Guided walks, Picnicking, Filming etc...

When to go:

You can visit Mount Kilimanjaro National Park year around, but best time is late June to October and late December to February.

You can take a flight to Kilimanjaro international Airport which would be nearest starting point. The other starting points are Moshi and Arusha.
