“In March my wife, daughter and I went on a nine days Safari with Bright African, a small tour operator located in Arusha.Msangi is the owner. When plannning for the trip I tried to get offers from several tour operators in Arusha but Msangi proved to be the only one who qickly, seriously and extensively answered my questions. Therefore I chose him and it proved to be a good choice. He composed a very satisfying 9 days tour through several parks and areas. We had to pay the entire trip in advance but Msangi confirmed the receipt of all my prepaiments without delay. There were no issues with the money. We had the safari vehicle for ourselves, no other guests. The car was in good condition. Our driverguide was very knowledgeable about all tini local roads in the parks as well as about nature and animals. He spotet the places where the animals were hiding. The police stopped our car a few times but we never had any problems. Bright African seems to have all the required governmental licences to do safaris.
Therefore, if you decide to address a local tour operator in Arusha Bright African/Msangi would be a good choice .”

“Our excellent tour guide and driver took us on a wildlife safari that was a trip of a lifetime.image description

We were very satisfied with Bright African Safaris. We saw lots of big game, and beautiful scenery. Our guide and driver (Juma) was excellent. Not only was he very knowledgeable about wildlife, he was friendly and eager to take us everywhere to see the animals at the best possible locations.”

“Just returned from a 6 day safari with Bright African Safaris which started on the 1st September 2014. A truly memorable experience. Couldn’t fault the service offered by Msangi and his team. Bright African Safaris were prompt and efficient at answering all our pre-safari queries and the service provided by our guide, Othman, whilst on safari was second to none.

Nothing was too much trouble throughout our trip and we felt very well looked after. We would definitely recommend to other travelers.”

“When I contacted a few safari companies to arrange a six-day tour of Tanzania’s northern parks in September 2014, Mr. Msangi Charema at Bright African Safaris stood out for his prompt, friendly, and upbeat response. I chose to book my trip through him, and I am happy I did. From our first email to my last day when Msangi himself drove me to the airport (he also met me upon my arrival), it was a pleasure to work with him. With limited knowledge and research, I proposed a preliminary itinerary which Msangi was happy to fulfill, but he was quick to suggest alternatives he believed would improve my experience. I am so glad that he did, because it was his advice that really made the trip special. He insisted that I see the Serengeti when I at one point considered missing it due to distances and my limited time. The Serengeti turned out to be the crown jewel of the trip, and knowing what I know now, I would not have missed it for anything. This year, the rains – and animals – remained concentrated around my central Serengeti camp, making for an incredible wildlife spectacle. In early negotiations when I suggested a change to smaller, more unique accommodations, Msangi provided a range of interesting options, and the lodges and camps I chose were all wonderful experiences. My guide Masatu was also a joy to be with. He is a happy, gregarious man with many friends in Arusha and the guide community, and is a courteous, friendly, and fun companion. Thank you Masatu and Msangi!”

“An African Safari has been on our bucket list for many years. In 2014 we started looking at different safari companies and found they varied significantly in price and services. After contacting many companies, we chose Bright African Safaris, a locally owned company. Our contact, Msangi Charema was prompt in answering our questions and listened to our wants. With his knowledge of the wide variety of places to visit, he put together our trip of a lifetime. Once we were in Tanzania, our guide, Amir, was the best – friendly and accommodating, with the eyes of a hawk and knowledge of the animals. We traveled in September 2014 and the wildlife viewing was amazing!! We saw elephants, zebras, lions, wildebeest, giraffes, and many smaller animals every day.”

“Nancy and I returned two weeks ago from a Kilimanjaro climb and safari with Bright Africa Safaris.  Nancy’s 61 and I’m 63.

What a great vacation!!!   Every day had a unique edge to it–
unique and wonderful!
The two of us climbed Kilimanjaro, led by our guide Jared and support from
the team Masangi Charema put together for us.  We took the Rongai route,
which meant camping 5 nights.  We haven’t camped much but even on this huge
mountain, found it more enjoyable than previous experiences.  Not hard,
since we had two guides, a cook and porters taking care of everything.  When
we arrived at each campsite, the table was set for us to have snacks– and
the food was always really good!  We’re both pretty fit and had no trouble
with the climb, but Jared’s encouragement and reminding us to climb “pole,
pole” helped a lot.
Every day, the views and the experience were better than the previous.
– The safari was also top notch.  Our guide, Amiri, became a friend and was
just the right kind of person for us.  A wealth of information without
talking too much, smart, friendly, helped us understand about  local real
life– things you can’t get out of a book.  Also, a great eye for game.
Seemed to have telescopic vision– helping us spot a leopard in a tree with
its kill or some other breathtaking scene every day.
– If you are committed to going to Tanzania but not sure how to do it, here’s
our thought process:  We wanted to experience everything we could, including
camping, luxury lodges and tented lodges.  We enjoyed them all but have the
warmest memories of the tented lodges.  You’re in a big tent, with real
beds.  The tent is typically on a platform of wood or concrete, with a
thatched roof over it and a perfectly fine bathroom attached to the back of
it.  This allows the lodges to be placed in remote and beautiful settings.
Awesome little bars for the cocktail hour after a game drive and good food
at charming restaurants in bush settings.
– From a practical point of view— When we were deciding and preparing for
the trip, we asked ourselves “Does it make sense to send this money to
somebody in Tanzania we’ve never met?   We’d be dubious about sending money
even to somebody near home in the U.S.”  Well, we decided if we were going
to Tanzania, we ought to support a local company, even it it felt like
taking more of a chance than going with a UK or US based or partnered
company.  Of course, it all turned out great and we consider it one of our
best life decisions! Charema and Kahlidi met us at the airport, and
everything went on schedule with not one hiccup for the entire two weeks.
Warm and friendly people at every turn and total support for anything we
needed.”
To Whom It May Concern,
Our family of four went on a private ten day camping safari with Bright African Safaris. With their help, we were able to arrange everything via email from our home here in Canada – developing an itinerary which met our must see list and yet stayed within our timeframe and budget. They were also able to answer many of our questions about currency, immunizations, equipment, visas and so on.                       From our arrival at Nairobi airport to the last day of our ten day adventure, we didn’t have to worry about a single thing. Bright African looked after all of the details and they did it very well. In addition to looking after all the permits and paperwork, they provided a driver/guide and camp attendant/cook as well as a rugged, safari-equipped, four wheel drive vehicle and all the equipment, food and water needed for the trip. Our guide and cook looked after us from morning to night to ensure we had a good time and great adventure. They were exceptional! Our guide spoke fluent English and, while very knowledgeable about all the flora and fauna, he was also able to tell us a great deal about the geography and history of the country as well as the customs and traditions of the local people. And, I swear, he could spot a cheetah from mile away! Our cook was incredible. He worked tirelessly to ensure that we were well fed, whether it was tea and snack after a game drive or one of his delicious local dishes for dinner. But, what I think we all remember the most about the trip is just much fun we had and shared with them along the way.
Needless to say, we would highly recommend Bright African Safaris to anyone looking for a great adventure with great people. If you would like to contact us by email, we would be happy to share more about our safari experience with you.
Sincerely,                                                                                                                                  Tim, April, Travis and Logan Raines
“Reference for Bright African Safaris : We spent 10 days on a private safari organised by Charema at Bright African Safaris. This was undoubtedly the holiday of a lifetime for our family – which has already included much remarkable travelling! Bright African Safaris were extremely patient, prompt and cooperative dealing with our exhaustive email enquiries prior to travel. Their safari price compared favourably with other quotations we received. Charema was always honest and realistic in his responses and the final itinerary reflected his extremely good judgement about our requirements. We were two families – and our driver/guides, Ori Peter and Wilson were wonderful people and highly professional at all times. They were also fabulous with our children. The lodges Charema suggested were all superb, the safari vehicles were comfortable and our guides were always happy to stop and let us linger whenever we wished. We cannot recommend Bright African Safaris highly enough.”

“Hi, I am really happy to recommend Bright African Safaris (BAS) to you. My family and I (2 adults, 2 kids) went on a ten day safari with some friends (another family of 2 adults, 3 kids).
It was the best, most engaging, interesting, and wondrous of holidays. The landscape, the unbelievably plentiful and accessible wildlife, and our visits to villages, was all extraordinarily enjoyable and interesting for all of us. Depending on your mindset, potentially life-changing.
A few points to note: – BAS are one of the tiny minority of tour companies that are owned by an African (Msangi, who is referred to as “Charema” is the owner)
– BAS is a small company, and in our collective experience literally everyone involved works very hard to make the holiday a success.
– We spent the whole ten days with a guide (Wilson) who was personally delightful, knowledgeable, and very committed to eco-tourism; we spent three days camping (which involved additional staff to handle the logistics) and again the staff involved were friendly, helpful, and hard-working.
– It is a very competitive industry, and if you are shopping around for prices, then in our experience any apparent difference in price between companies will be entirely due to differences in the tour content and itinerary (which parks you are entering, standard of accommodation, etc). As far as we could tell the vast majority of the fees involved are associated with park entry fees (which are unbelievably expensive as it is just about the only way the govt. derives any income) and lodge accommodation – we toted up the park and lodge fees as we went, and most of the safari fees must be outgoings (managing cash flow is obviously a real headache for the safari companies as deposits need to be paid early).
– Camping is quite a bit cheaper than staying in lodges, but I must admit given the length and heat of the days it was good to have the relative luxury of the lodges compared to camping. We do a lot of camping in national parks in Australia and are very comfortable living with no facilities, but although it was more expensive we were glad in the end we only had three days camping. BAS do everything for you, but its just a matter of enjoying a bit of indulgent comfort and a cold beer at the end of the day. Clearly this trade-off will depend on your budget and the climate at the time of year you are intending to go.
– Do spend some time thinking about an itinerary – luckily for us our friends did all the planning, but there are a lot of options and different aspects will suit differences in personal style . Anyway, in short, Charema offers a very wonderful service with a lot of integrity, and if we can ever afford to do this again I would go out of my way to use them. Best of luck with your planning!”

“Dear charema, Now that we are home and freezing in the cold Canadian winter, we would like to than you and your team at Bright African Safaris for the wonderful safari you provided for us in December. The safari you built for us was a perfect fit to all our interest, with the agriculture component for Dave, the wild life for Stephan and the culture tours that were of great interest to all of us, especially Stephs and myself…We have over 2000 amazing pictures, a constant reminder of our time in Tanzania. In addition we have a host of warm memories of the days spend travailing with you, our knowledgeable and interesting driver, John and “the best cook in Tanzania”, Festo.. We would like to especially think you for the assistance you gave to us in communicating with our daughter Steph and arranging to meet with her in Dar es Salaam.
It was a great relief to have your help., as I am not sure just how we would have managed to make those arrangements without you. Proof of how much you real care about your clients.
Please, feel free to pass on our contact information to anyone who requests a reference of your company.
Dave and I will be back in the couple of years, and we look forward to all the interesting and existing things you arrange for the next safari…Stephs will be climbing Kilimanjaro with you in June, during her breaks between volunteer project, I know you are going to take very good care of her. Until we meet again our best wishes to you and the team.”

“If you have to choose a tour operator for a safari, don’t hesitate, contact Bright African Safaris. This agency offers very good service and price. Our guide was very professional, answering all our questions, and we appreciated his perfect knowledge of all animals and also his explanations regarding their behavior in their environment. In 5 days, we drove to Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro and everywhere we had the opportunity to observe plenty of animals. We also want to mention the very nice Sopa Lodges and Kirurumu Campsite and the cheerful welcome of all their staff. For all these reasons, we highly recommend Bright African Safaris.”
I wish you all the best for the future.

“I did a kilimanjaro trek with Bright African Safaris in June of this year and it was a wonderful experience; the guides were very knowledgeable about the mountain and everything to do with it and with out their help on summit day i do not think i would have made it to the top. And the food i had on my two experiences with Bright African Safaris ( I also did a 6day safari with them at Xmas) was with out a doubt some of the best food i had during my 10 month stay in Tanzania. Bright African Safaris exceeded my expectations during both my experiences; being very professional yet personable and doing a wonderful job of catering to the interests of the different members of the group.
The Bright African Safari crew that accompanied us during the 5 day trek on the marangu route are a huge part of the amazing memory that was my kili experience and I will never forget any of them. While in Tanzania I recommended Bright African Safaris to quite a few people I met along the way and I have yet to get any negative feedback on the company, within the next few years i plan on going back and doing another route up kili with family and it wouldn’t even cross my mind to go with a different company.”

“We,4 of us went on safari in July 2009 and it was better than we ever expected.
Bright African Safaris was definitely the right choice. It’s a local Tanzanian company and the service they provide always feels warm and personal.
And from the moment we first made contact with Msangi, the owner, he was reliable in returning my e-mails and responding to all of my requests. They even picked us up at our hotel in Dar es Salaam and took us to the bus station since we took the bus to Arusha.
They took care of all the logistics and we never had to worry about anything.
Wilson, our guide, was also incredible. He was pleasant and friendly, but best of all he had eagle eyes. On the last day, after seeing elephants, giraffes, lions, leopards and rhinos, I said I wanted one last look at a cheetah. We were in the Ngogongoro Crater and even though no one else had spotted a cheetah all day, he found me a cheetah. Now that’s an excellent guide.”
We highly recommend Bright African Safaris.
